LCTI is currently accepting applications for:
Guidance Counselor: Full-time position available at LCTI beginning October 2019. PA valid PreK-12 School Guidance certification required. Some evening, weekend and summer hours required. Previous counseling in CTE environment preferred, candidate should possess strong group presentation skills and excellent communication skills. Knowledgeable in career opportunities for students, college visits and student scholarships, experience in scheduling and assessments preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Visit sending schools as requested; deliver informational presentations and recruit prospective students within Lehigh County
- Assist in evaluating student admissions applications by communicating with each applicant and/or his/her participating school counselor, as needed, to finalize course assignments.
- Develop master schedules for courses, teachers, and students within the student information database; provide ongoing schedule updates and modifications.
- Work with appropriate staff at sending districts, in coordination with LCTI’s Safety Office, to obtain information regarding physical, emotional, and social conditions that would help determine accommodations needed for student success.
- Provide personal and career counseling to all students enrolled in LCTI.
- Serve on Student Assistance Program (SAP) team(s).
- Refer all incidents that are affecting or could affect student health and welfare to the appropriate authorities (e g , Children and Youth Services, State Police, etc. ); consult with other professional staff and outside agencies and organizations; maintain timely communication with the Director of Academic and Special Programs regarding special concern situations.
- Consult with the participating school authorities at all levels on student progress.
- Work with students, families, and staff to resolve student attendance, discipline, and performance problems and to ensure student achievement.
- Organize parent-teacher-supervisor conferences as requested by supervisors and principals; provide support and appropriate contract documents (e g, behavioral, attendance, performance contracts, etc.).
- Visit assigned students in their various labs on a regular basis.
- Conduct exit interviews with students leaving programs and/or LCTI and accurately report interview results in the student information database (e g, Skyward); provide reports to supervisor.
- Schedule visits of post-secondary institutions and military services for students.
- Arrange for required student assessments; provide organizational support and reporting functions for standardized testing events (e g, PSSA, Keystone Exams, High Schools That Work, NOCTI, etc.).
- Participate in IEP meetings as requested.
- Participate in Lehigh County Career Pathways activities.
- Enter data into various software programs and databases; work with Director and with IT department to make improvements and to build / maintain accurate systems of recording, reporting, and archiving student information.
- Keep supervisor and staff informed of any new developments and/or guidance techniques that will benefit LCTI.
- Complete written reports as needed or as requested by supervisor.
