Summary of Practice: The Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) works in an ambulatory care setting that provides health care services to individuals alone, or as part of a family, class or group. Individuals receive services because they are identified as belonging to a population-at-risk. Positions vary depending on the plan of care at the site. Duties may include; Primary Care (Family Medicine); Pediatric Care; Family Planning; Immunizations; Refugee Screening or care of patients with possible Tuberculosis. This position will be primarily positioned in the pediatric practice at Eastgate Public Health Center.
Current Opportunity: Our Eastgate Public Health team is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) who is committed to providing care to all populations but with a focus on the pediatric population of Seattle's eastside community. This RN role will coordinate with multiple programs within the facility in order to provide clients with seamless care. The responsibilities include nursing triage, assessments and interventions, patient care planning, evaluation, and medical care coordination, adult and pediatric immunizations, and mental health screening. The RN also carries out prescribed treatments, administers medications, and coordinates activities with other health care staff in order to assure the orderly and safe provision of health care services and provides coverage for refugee screening program. The RN facilitates and assures daily clinic activities and operations. The RN maintains the clinic environment, coordinates the patient care team efforts and directs efficient clinic flow. The RN delegates tasks to the health care team within the scope of practice to achieve desirable patient outcomes and efficient clinic functioning.
Work Location & Schedule: The primary worksite for this position is at Eastgate Public Health Center which is located at 14350 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue, WA 98007. This is a term-limited temporary (TLT) position that will work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. This position will end one year from date of fulfillment. Job Duties:- The responsibilities include nursing assessments and interventions, patient care planning, evaluation and medical care coordination.
- The RN maintains the clinic environment, coordinates the patient care team efforts, delegates tasks and directs clinic flow.
- The RN also carries out prescribed treatments, administers medications and vaccinations, monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.
- Conducts medical, dental and psychiatric screening and triage with patients over the phone and in person.
- Obtains and documents health history, chief complaint, vital signs, growth monitoring data, assessment data, and developmental screening data.
- Refers to or consults with other health providers.
- Follows established Public Health medical records policies and procedures and the State and Federal laws that govern the release of health care information.
- Establishes relationships with individuals or families to promote interactive problem solving and provide patient education.
- Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act.
- Participates and assists in the training and orientation of health care professional students and new employees.
- Establishes and maintains tracking of data for acute and chronic illness management.
- Provides for clinic maintenance of supplies and equipment; maintains a safe environment according to standards of (OSHA/WISHA).
- Provides patient care based upon these practice guidelines, community standards of care, and Federal and State laws and regulations.
- Maintains professional competence by pursuing opportunities for continuous learning, attending continuing education offerings, reading professional literature, and engaging in other activities which develop new knowledge and skills.
- Knowledge of nursing process, ability to use a systematic approach to client care that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, consultation and referral.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, physical assessment and basic pharmacology.
- Knowledge of health care systems structure and function, (primary care services, community resources and private providers), allowing for appropriate client referrals based upon patient need and program guidelines.
- Knowledge of human systems (wellness, illness, growth and development, human behavior, psychosocial development, family and community systems) and alternative health care treatments.
- Knowledge of prescribed treatments and medical interventions, ability to monitor and document patient's treatment progress and response, refer to providers when indicated.
- Knowledge of Washington State law (WAC 18.79) relating to nursing care, federal health care regulations, Nurse Practice guidelines, Patient Bill of Rights, clinical practice guidelines for patient care, and understands community standards.
- Knowledge of chart documentation requirements, medical record forms, State and Federal laws that govern release of health care information, patient consent.
- Requires electronic charting in EPIC. Knowledge of health care technology, equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment.
- Familiarity with the systems required to maintain the supplies; skill in repairing and calibrating clinic equipment.
- Knowledge of adult learning and health education techniques and principles including reproductive health education, related services information, options counseling, and emergency contraception services.
- Ability to effectively manage time, problem solve, manage multiple tasks, prioritize, intervene in a crisis and coordinate medical care.
- Ability to lead the work of others, including to delegate tasks and coordinate the patient care team effort to provide efficient clinic flow.
- Knowledge of research techniques and principals as well as quality assurance/improvement systems.
- Ability to apply OSHA/WISHA standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to use information management systems.
- Ability to initiate appropriate crisis intervention and emergency response.
- Ability to maintain working relationships and ability to work with diverse populations and cultures; ability to engage clients in a care plan.
- Ability to conduct patient triage, both in person and on the phone.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
Necessary Requirements:- Requires current Washington State Registered Nurse license.
- Proof of Current BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification
- Requires the completion of training from a National League of Nursing accredited school of nursing, or the equivalent.
- BSN preferred.
- Washington State Drivers' License or the ability to provide transportation to work locations may be required.
Desired Qualifications:- Two years of experience in pediatric care setting.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Sick Leave is accumulated at the rate of one day per month. There is no restriction on the amount of sick leave that can be accumulated and carried over to subsequent years. At retirement an employee will be paid 35% of their unused, accumulated sick leave. Non-represented employees and employees in certain bargaining units will receive this benefit as a payment to a VEBA account, which pays for post-retirement health benefits on a pre-tax basis.
